What is Lime Rock Base used for?

Crushed limestone base rock (2" minus, ASTM D2940) that compacts to 95% Proctor density — the dependable foundation layer for driveways, roads, and parking lots.

Driveways & parking areas
Angular particles compact to 95% Proctor density, locking together into a dense, load-bearing foundation that supports residential and commercial vehicle traffic without rutting.
Road construction & site prep
Provides the structural sub-base layer required beneath asphalt and concrete for highways, streets, and rural roads. Meets ASTM D2940 and most local DOT base specifications.
Building pads & foundations
Creates a compacted, stable platform for shed pads, pole barns, equipment staging areas, and building foundations before concrete is poured.
Parking lots & staging areas
Supports heavy equipment, truck traffic, and vehicle loads with minimal settling when properly compacted in 6" lifts with a vibratory roller.
Temporary construction roads
Provides an immediately usable, compactable access road surface on job sites where permanent paving has not yet been installed.
Retaining wall backfill
Well-graded angular particles compact tightly behind retaining wall structures to provide lateral support and reduce hydrostatic pressure.
Not ideal for these applications:
  • Not ideal for finished road surface (needs asphalt or concrete cap)
  • Not ideal for clean drainage applications (use 57 stone)
  • Not ideal for decorative landscaping
  • Not ideal for direct planting areas
